Thayne Mural Project
CALL FOR ARTISTS

This project is made possible by the State of Wyoming through the Governor's Semi Quincentennial Task Force

*This project is funded and facilitated by the Town of Thayne.  The Star Valley Arts Council has no part in determining a winner.*

​1. Project Overview

Thayne is seeking one artist (or artist team) to design and paint a new public mural reflecting the spirit, landscape, and community values of our town. This is a unique opportunity to enhance a visible public space and engage residents & visitors alike.

2. Site & Concept

  • Location: Thayne Community Center exterior wall of gym - 250 Vannoy Parkway, Thayne, WY 83127

  • Approximate size: 50'w x 30’h

  • Theme: Celebrating Thayne/Wyoming/America’s natural beauty, local heritage, and community pride. Proposals should connect meaningfully to the town’s identity and environment.

3. Budget & Compensation

  • Design stipend: $25,000, awarded to finalist invited to develop full proposals.  Artist will be responsible for purchasing all materials from this stipend.  The Town will provide scaffolding and insurance for the artist.

  • Payments split: 50% upon contract signing, 50% upon completion.

4. Submission Process

Submit by July 31st, 2025:

  • Contact info (name, address, email, phone)

  • Résumé or CV (optional)

  • Portfolio: 3–5 recent works, especially murals or large-scale pieces

  • To‑scale rendering of proposed mural

  • Written concept and theme explanation

  • Installation timeline, including how you will seal the final mural

5. Timeline

  • Proposals due: July 31, 2025 at 11:59pm

  • Artist selected & contract signed: August 8, 2025

  • Mural installation must be complete by: October 31, 2025

6. Selection Criteria

The Selection Jury (comprised of the Devin Simpson - Mayor, Rebecca Hutchinson - Town Council Member, Sally Humpherys - Town Council Member, Joe Heward - Town Council Member, Kevin Voyles - Attorney and Art Enthusiast, and Doug Monson - Artist) will evaluate based on:

  • Artistic quality & execution experience

  • Relevance to Thayne’s identity/theme

  • Feasibility in budget and timeline

  • Community engagement potential

7. Support & Materials

The Town will:

  • Prepare the substrate: power ­wash, prime, seal

  • Provide scaffolding

8. Rights

  • Copyright remains with the artist.

  • The Town retains reproduction rights for promotional use.

9. Eligibility

  • Open to all artists or teams (emerging, professional, local, or from outside Wyoming).

  • Preference may be given to artists with ties to the region.

  • Emerging and underrepresented artists are encouraged to apply.
