​The Star Valley Arts Council is starting to host open figure drawing sessions each month, offering artists the opportunity to practice drawing the human form in a supportive, studio-style environment. These informal gatherings are open to artists of all experience levels. There’s no instruction—just time and space to draw from life alongside fellow artists.

Models will be draped*, and artists should bring their own supplies. A recommended supply list can be found below.

Two chairs can be used per artist. One can be used to prop up a large drawing pad.

Registration is not required, but strongly encouraged. We will need a minimum of 4 registrants to hold each month's session.

​

Cost to attend is $10 per artist. These fees are what pay our models. Payment can be made the night of the event via cash or venmo to @starvalleyarts.

Schedule:

​

(3) different 5-minute poses

​

(2) different 10-minute poses

​

10 minute break

​

(3) 20-minute sessions of the same pose, with a 5-minute break in between

Drawing Surfaces

• Sketchpad or drawing paper (18"x24" recommended)

• Optional: drawing board or clipboard for support

Drawing Media

• Graphite pencils (range 2H–6B)

• Charcoal sticks or pencils (vine, compressed, or both)

• Conte crayons or pastel pencils (optional for tone or color)

• Kneaded eraser and standard white eraser

• Sharpener or sanding block

​

Other Useful Items

• Masking tape or clips to hold paper

• Blending stumps or chamois

• Rags or paper towels for smudging/cleanup

• Fixative spray

• Small trash bag for personal cleanup
